About Powderbird

Wasatch Powderbird Guides

Wasatch Powderbird Guides was born in 1973 when a few ski professionals began taking adventurous travelers on heli-ski trips to the backcountry of Utah’s stunning mountains. Powderbird specializes in private and small-group helicopter ski and snowboard trips to deep powder stashes across Utah’s Wasatch Range. With two bases of operations at Snowbird Ski Resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon and Canyons Resort in Park City, Powderbird is not more accessible than ever for travelers seeking an adventurous and unforgettable ski vacation. Powderbird also operates in the glacial coast of Southwest Greenland and offers customized excursions to exotic ski destinations worldwide.

Premium Program
Powderbird’s Premium Heli-ski Adventures allow you to reserve a single seat or more on your trip of a lifetime. We will form groups according to style, ability and weight to meet safety standards. Up to eight skiers and snowboarders spend the day together carving powder turns run after run. Our trips begin the night before with a welcome phone call, detailing our plan for the next day and arranging any ski rentals or morning pickups. After a “Rise, Shine & Ski” wake-up call the following morning, you’ll check in for breakfast at the Snowbird heliport or the Alpine House at Canyons and proceed to safety orientations. Then on to the adventure! We’ll spend the rest of the morning skiing and snowboarding bowls, basins, chutes and steeps.

Private Groups & Charters
Our private charters offer the ultimate in flexibility and service. Bring up to 12 family members and friends–you and your companions can invent your day’s adventures as you go. Private groups are perfect for friends or family members of varied abilities who want to ski together, groups of powderhounds who want to ski maximum vertical, and inexperienced powder skiers who prefer a slow pace.

Not Only For Experts
Whether you want challenging intermediate runs or hair-raising expert chutes, our guides will pick the trails that are right for you. With a typical guide-to-guest ratio of 1:4, one guide leads the group up front and another guide trails the group from behind. You will rarely be out of sight (or assistance) from one of our highly-trained expert guides. Powderbird can match your ability to our broad mix of terrain. We have access to nearly 100,000 acres of Forest Service area to choose the best conditions from on a daily basis. Polished style and technical expertise are not prerequisites, but the ability to control your speed in a variety of snow conditions is critical. It is necessary that you are proficient at kick-turning, traversing, side-slipping and snowplowing; these skills will help you handle anything we may encounter.

To fully enjoy helicopter skiing, our guests should have some previous soft snow experience and enough endurance to ski a full day at a moderate pace. Though we try to access the best snow available, occasionally we encounter sections of heavy snow or breakable crust. Wide, powder specific skis are recommended for skiers lacking extensive powder or backcountry experience. Guests from out of state are also encouraged to schedule their heli adventure after one or two days of warming up at one of Utah’s many great resorts.
